My name is Beth and I have been working in private practice in Oxford for six years. It feels like a great privilege to work in my role. I started training to be a counsellor after experiencing my own mental health issues and having my own counselling. Having my own counselling meant that I was able to start a new career and essentially a different kind of life. I love helping other people do the same thing. I specialise in counselling people who experienced distressing or traumatic events early in life, who want to build a more satisfying life for themselves.
Difficult experiences in childhood can result in feeling lost, worried, or low in adulthood. It can also result in the thinking that you don’t know who you really are or that you are an imposter in your own life. If any of this sounds familiar, I can support you to make the difficult memories easier to cope with and build a more meaningful and content life. Here are some of the tools I can use in our work together:
I work in a trauma informed way so I use a three phase approach in my counselling which means that we can first of all ensure that you are grounded, both in the counselling relationship and in your everyday life. We can then move on to process the difficult things that have happened. After this we can talk about the future that you would like to build for yourself.
The duration of the counselling depends on the individual and the circumstances. I do both long term and short term counselling. I am also very happy to help you if you are already part way through your healing journey (for example, if you have had counselling before) and would like to move on to the next stage.
I work in a collaborative way and I am always open to feedback regarding the suggestions that I make in your counselling (after all, they are always only suggestions!) I also take confidentially and your autonomy very seriously. I believe that I can only help people to move forward if they feel heard and as safe as possible.
I offer online counselling from my practice in Headington, Oxford. Online sessions are available via Google Meet, WhatsApp Video and Facetime, allowing for greater flexibility, reaching clients from the surrounding areas of Marston, Cowley, Wood Farm, Sandhills, Risinghurst, Wheatley, Summertown and across the UK.
Online counselling can work very well for many people as it is more convenient than face to face (with no travel time or parking to worry about!) it can be very helpful for you to be in the comfort of your own home, particularly when talking about difficult subjects. This can even mean that the work evolves more quickly than in face to face sessions.
Payments to be made at least 24 hours in advance via the booking management system. The full fee needs to be paid for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance.
