Counsellor in Headington, Oxford
Before becoming a counsellor I worked in events management and Human Resources. These roles weren't right for me and it was part of my transformation in therapy that led me to become a counsellor instead. Having said this I find that having worked in offices and, in particular, in Human Resources, helps me in my role as a counsellor to understand the stresses and strains of different jobs and careers. I thought that Human Resources would be a great way of helping people. It can be, but it's not always the case. As a counsellor I can now work directly with people who are experiencing adversity at work or in other areas of their life.
I appreciate that it can be daunting, overwhelming or confusing to look for a counsellor so I'll tell you a little more about my passions and interests to help build a picture of who I am. I am very creative and this is reflected in my counselling. In my spare time I love writing and Lino-printing. I also love music and film and believe that creativity (either our own or other people's) can be hugely healing. The natural world is also extremely important to me. I love walking and also spending time by the sea. I love to swim in the sea when I can. Nautilus (spiral) shells on the sea-shore are what inspired the name of my counselling practice. I love that they represent growth, expansion and renewal in nature.
When I'm not able to swim in the sea I do so in my local pool in Oxford! I do like to practice what I preach and make sure I keep up with self-care rituals and routines as it so important. It is great to help people discover the self-care rituals that are helpful for them, especially when they might not have invested this time in themselves in the past.
